In 2022, I established a club for teenagers aged 12-18 to explore textiles, dress, and body culture. Together, we shaped the activities, focusing on ideas, designers, and techniques that interested them, while also introducing new concepts they may not have encountered before. The group was eager to design and create items to sell, which led us to participate in the DIY Art Market in September 2022. They successfully ran a stall and earned £300, which we used to purchase equipment like sewing machines.

Many participants had begun secondary school during 2020-2021 and expressed difficulties in making friends and socializing outside of school. They found the club to be a valuable opportunity to learn new skills and have fun in a supportive environment beyond the classroom.

It felt like you were offering a pretty unique afternoon for them. You allowed them a space where they could be themselves and develop their creativity in a relaxed atmosphere with your creative and inventive guidance.  I feel that it’s not something everyone could do (especially with teenagers!), so thank you for facilitating this atmosphere for them.
